HELP! HELP!!! Shifter pivot??
« on: February 02, 2005, 09:32:53 AM »
OK, I got some issues here. My tranny won't shift into 2nd and 4th. 1st and 3rd and 5th work fine, and reverse seems to be good also.

The shifter pivot bushing is toast, it is split in 2. I basically only have the bottom half. This is the sleeve type busing that slids into the tranny, and the shifter slids into that. That's shot.

I HOPE that bushing being shot is causing my problem. If it is, where the hell can I get that bushing from??? I have a big wheeling trip this weekend, and need to fix this by friday!!! :-[

OK, and Trackers have the same pin and bushing the sammi's do???

I'm picking up a new pivot bushing tomorrow from a junk yard. I don't think you guys know exactly what I am talking about!

I will pull the tower off my tracker tomorrow and make sure all the shift rails are working correctly.

I hope this freakin stuff works by tomorrow!!! Would suck to drive with just 1st,3rd,5th and reverse!!!

This should do it!

Unlikly, since I still have 1st, 3rd, 5th and reverse, BUT I will drain the fluid tonight and refill with fresh stuff. Also going to junkyard to pull some parts.

This all didn't start happening until the pivot bushing broke and after I put my 4x4 tranny back in.....

Chief,

If you keep reading the post, they talk about hard shifting in to some gears.  It goes on to talk about removing the shifter and lubing up the shift rails.

You're going to have the shifter pulled anyway!  ;)

Rinally got it! The pivot bushing is split in half. So, I found another kick in the junk yard, and IT was split in half. So I took that half, and my half, and made one! Nice tight shifting now.

But that wasn't the problem. My shift rails got bound up.

I basically eased the clutch out, while pulling the shifter like a  MF into second, started grinding BAD, then *WAM, CLUNK*, went into gear, and I now have all my gears back just fine!! Cept the busted pivot bushing is binding up 5th and reverse a little!!

Had a good afternoon of wheeling Sat also.  8)
