Front suspension binding.
« on: July 06, 2006, 02:22:47 PM »
I have the 3" Calmini suspension lift fitted to my Vit and the front control arms seem to be binding.
I can't get a wheel alignment probley done.
They said the crush tubes might not be long enough and I will have to take off the arms and fit longer one's.
Anyone have the same problem?
The rear might be binding as well, had to fit a 1-1/2 inch coil spacer to level out the rear.

Please don't start a Calmini bashing post just some useful feedback.

Mine don't have any problems even when I have overtightened them. Never had a problem with getting alignments. Unless you have camber bolts, you can only adjust the toe-in and I can't see a problem doing that. Maybe you need to find somewhere else to take it.

I have a feeling that you could be right about the crush tubes.
The (new)lift on my 4dr is not anything (squeeking, Grinding) like my 2dr (3yrs old)
WD-40ed it and they quit.
I guess I'll have to take mine off to check.
Local Off-Road shop put it on for free (get what you pay for)

My calmini is not binding but it is squeeking alot
and yes I did grease all the bushings
I was thinking of drilling and putting grease nipples in all the pivots
what do you guys think

Ps I am going to put coil spacers on top of the kit and put 35s on the rig

maybe you've over torqued the bolts, and thats making your suspension bind.

when i installed my lift i bought i bigger tube of lithium grease. i lubed her up good, but then after a month or so it started squeeking really bad. boy was i disappointed, i thought i screwed up, and didn't use enough grease. turns out it was my rear heim joint that was squeeking. i bought a teflon lined hd joint, and it hasn't squeeked since. that was a year ago.

I have had the lift in for over 12 months no squeaking besides the rear heim joint, just needs a bit of silicon spray every now and then.
I have done very little off road.
Might need some more weekends off road to get the suspension flexed up a bit more.

I've always been told that suspension parts should be tightened with wheels on and on the ground - a friend of mine changes his stock bushings to urethane bushings in his civic, after install, the car didn't sit level, it was from tightening the lower control arm and strut bolts while the car was in the air, we lifted the car again, losened all the bolts a little to take the load out of the bushings, dropped the car again, backed it out of the garage, pulled it back in, then tightened the bolts, everything was fine then. Also, urethane bushings squeak, it's the nature of the beast.
