samurai spring suggestions
« on: July 06, 2006, 11:23:12 PM »
I need to desperately soften the ride up and get more flex from my samurai until I can do a yj conversion. I have an extra set of rear springs that i want to put on the front, but the rears that are on it now look pretty worn from the massive spoa conversion the previous owner did. So should I use the good set in the front or back? Also should I remove any leafs from the front or rear?  Do I need any bracket or harware to do this or will they fit in the stock shackles? Any suggestions would be appreciated

use the good set up front for the engine LBs, and you will be happy with this setup, friend of mine did it, and it flexes nicely.   he also did the fold down shackles (forget name to early in morning for me)  here is a pic of his flexing with it

The rear springs are 3" longer then the front springs (I think, you might want to measure that to be sure) so some modification is needed.  For the RUF I built a set of folding shackles for the front end then put a 1.5" spacer on the driveshaft.   Then we had to move the shocks forward a couple of inches so they squared up properly so I switched to the Ford Shock tower at the same time.

For doing as little work as possible, I would move the rear spring mount back half the distance and use a longer shackle to make up the rest in front.  That way you gain a bit more flex but don't have to move your shock tower or put a driveline spacer on.

If you are looking to do a YJ conversion anyway, I would just save up and do that instead.

Required Flex Shots!  ;D
