Lower control arm bolts, when to tighten?
« on: July 08, 2006, 09:33:13 PM »
Had to loosen the lower control arm bolts on the GV at the frame in order to get the a-arm down far enough to get the spring and spacer in.

The FSM says in garbled engrish...I think...that I need to torque these back to specs with the weight of the vehicle on them.  Is that correct?

I would do it that way for all that type of bush. The rubber twists as the arm moves so it seems sensible to have them aligned with no twist in them at its normal rest position. Otherwise they might get overstretched one way.

Seems like the end of the steel insert had
little teeth on it to bite into the frame mount,
I would of thought for a long travel system
that this should have a bearing surface instead.

If they were going for long travel they could have moved the a-arms much further under the vehicle and messed with the frame some.  Somehow I doubt they cared about travel other than the ability to take bad roads and occasional offroad abuse. :P
