4 door brake caliper and rotor on a 2 door?
« on: July 09, 2006, 01:00:22 PM »
I heard about this some where can it be done is it worth it. My kick does not stop so well since I put on my lift and 31's  I went to the parts store and they had the rotors in stock for the 4 door they are slotted and a little thicker the did not have the caliper in stock so i could not compare. If any one has done this or knows anyone who has let me know                                                                                                                                                                        thanks Chris

I did this, its a straight swap on later Track/Kicks. 89 and 90 models are different. Wild knows about those.

You need the caliper brackets too, so you need to order LOADED calipers, which should come with the brackets.. and are pretty cheap..

That and the rotors, and you are set.

as quaddawg said - and you might have to trim the backing plate a bit when you put the caliper on. a good cheap braking upgrade and you will notice a difference right away.

Do a search for 4-door brakes at Ack's FAQ (link in signature below).  the resulting link will take you to an excellent (but somewhat hard to find) thread right here on this forum that discusses the topic in detail with pics!

There's a "dirt" shield behind the rotor, it's meant to keep dirt/rocks out, but it really holds it in  ::) I think most just remove it completely. If you're looking for calipers within canada, I had a hard time finding someone that still has them available, I went with used.... I haven't done the swap yet, I'm going to on my new kick  ;D I also found that only the 96-98 4-doors had the vented rotors, but people in the US said all year 4-doors had them.... Canada must be different?

Looked around today and found some info autozone. com has a loaded caliper set for 81.99 a pair sounds cheap enough about $25 a rotor and if all that has to be done is to modify it is to remove the dust shield will post pics in a couple of days...and the 94 rotors I looked at today had vents good ol US.... Any other info that would help send my way thanks..

You need the caliper mounts too, not just the
calipers, the caliper mount bolts to the knuckle

I just got the calipers rotors and the bracket the caliper bolts to,
a little tweek on the backing plate made the whole thing clear no
problems, I also have an 89 Kick so I think you should have no
problem with the swap.

Stops better on 33s than stock  ;D

I forgot that bit, I just cut my backing plate off. It was a PITA with stones getting caught up in it. I don't think they ever did any damage what a noise they make.

No, switches to the bigger 4-door front discs and rear drums.

There's no direct Suzuki rear discs swap.

No, rear discs are a PITA to fit to a Track/Kick. However it is possible to fit the bigger rear drums from the LWB as well. I would always recommend this as it will help to maintain the proper brake balance.

Just finished up with the 4dr front brake upgrade on my 96 track. I ended up buying the loaded calipers and rotors.  It was an even swap, didn't even have to trim the back plate on the 96. Easy install, but a couple of things I ran into if anyone is thinking about doing this.  I needed a breaker bar to loosen up the 17mm bolts for the caliper bracket.  I had a hell of a time getting them out.  I needed to replace the 17mm bolts with new ones, the size is M12x1.25 30mm long, don't forget the lock washers.  I needed a "BFH" to free up the rotors... After I found the hardware and got everything off it went smooth.

This is from an earlier post.  I did this not too long ago and it went pretty smooth.  Do get the loaded pair.  This comes with brackets, caliper and pads.  I got mine from O'Reilly's.  I gave them my 2dr cores and nothing was said.
