Changed 3rds couple questions
« on: July 17, 2006, 05:04:47 AM »
Hi everyone, I finally got around to changing my 3rds on saturday, everything went smoothly but I have a couple questions.
I don't know what it's called, it's that balljoint that bolts onto the top of the rear third that allows for articulation. I found it hard to get lined up and bolted back into place. I'm pretty sure it's because I have the 1.5" coil spacers and there was a large gap between the two pieces. Should I have a 1.5" spacer in there between the balljoint and the rear third? I know they sell aftermarket parts for this, are they exctended or just made stronger?
Thanks
BTW: I had the stock 4.6 gears in from the auto and i just switched to the 5.12, much better now, I can spin my 31's again!!!

There is a spacer that you can build for this.  There is an article with pics and a dimension drawing at Acks FAQ (see link in signature).  Do a search for rear dif.  Although the spacer pictured in the article is made of an ultra-long polymer plastic, Steel might be a better choice...

Thanks Ack, I'll check that out and build one out of steel or aluminum then. Appreciate the help.

That article is great, the only thing, does anyone know what size (diameter and thread) those bolts are. I'd like to pick some up on the way home.
Thanks
