10 bolt vs 12 bolt sidekick rear
« on: July 18, 2006, 03:24:03 AM »
Which models of the sidekick 3 door had the 10 bolt carrier i have a 93/94 sidekick . Is the 12 bolt carrier that much stronger?

Ive managed to get hold of a arb 10 bolt rear and would like to install it,but not sure whether i have the 10 or 12 bolt.

I THOUGHT if i am not MISTAKING (lol im not 100% sure on this)

the change happened in '96, difference can be seen in interior, front grille.

Newer models would have 26 slines front diff shafts and 12 bolt rear, instead of 22 splines in front diff and 10 bolt rear.

I ran both in my 89', the 10 bolt held up
to the turbo just fine, I have 12 bolt now
because that's what fit the 5.83 gears that
heather bought and installed.

I switched from a 12 bolt rear to a 10 bolt because I couldn't get a rear 5:83. I've never heard of anyone having any problems with a 10 bolt.

Ive recently upgraded my front from 22 spline to 26 ,so i would presume that the rear is a 10 bolt pattern.
What gear upgrades are available for the 10 bolt rear and who stocks them?

Here in the states the ten bolt stuff is the older ones or non anti loc brake,(it does not have the wire on it or sensor) you should be able to find an 89 or so and get the ring and pinion from it.

On a related note, the 96 has a different front spline count?  Is the only difference the splines, so can I take a 26 spline ARB and put it in the front end of a 92 Tracker and only need to get the CV shafts from a 96 and above?

What spline do the toyota CV's run?

I'm just tossing around info for the next project.   ;D

The only difference between the 22 and 26 spline front ARB are the sidegears which are interchangeable and available for individual purchase.
