SUZUKI SIDEKICK 1.8
« on: January 13, 2005, 08:41:14 AM »
Hey everybody how's it going? Well i got a question am i the only person to own sidekick sport with 1.8. I know i can't be cause more then half of the sidekick 4 dr produced in 97 and 98 were 1.8. So why is it i can't find any mods for my rig. Example header or intake. I currently have a 1997 4 dr sidekick sport with 1.8. I have 2 1/2 magnaflow exhaust. i made my own open air intake and its chiped. I want to put a header on and maybe short throw shifter, and if money permits a turbo. Any help with how to find 1.8 parts would be awsome.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!  I too have a '98 sport with the 1.8 and made my own 2" exhaust with a Flowmaster muffler.  I put in 2" spring spacers, longer rear shocks, flipped the strut mount and am running 265x16's.  I was told that the 1.8 exhaust manifold is fairly similar to a header and so no one made a header for it.  Actually there are some parts that fit the regular 1.6 kick that will fit the 1.8.  Take your exhaust manifold gasket and have it traced onto a CNC machine and you should be able to have a turbo manifold made.  HTH  Good luck!   8)

This is true. The 1.6 16V, 1.8, 2.0, 2.5 and 2.7 have actual pipes instead of a cast iron manifold.

Well, it's more like a cast iron header,
like the Hemi's came with in the Cuda's

Well, the 1.6/16 has a cast iron boat anchor.  I've replaced BOTH of my 1.6/16 exhaust manifolds with Calmini headers - definitely an improvement!

I have seen  :o both that's why I included the 1.6 16V. My 97 1.6 16V had the cast iron Speed/Rev limiter ::) attached to it. But I also saw a 98 1.6 16V  ChevyTracker in the junk yard with a piped exhaust manifold. Also saw one on a New body style 1.6 16V 2-door Tracker don't know what year that one was though.

Wow my assumption must be right, 1 Person had 1.8 so far. Why is there so little people that modify this engine. I think it a awsome engine. its fast to. I love the look on the faces of other imports that people think are the shit when you fly by in your little 4dr suzuki. Suzukis really are the underdog when it comes to imports but people should take a harder look at them.

I think that the issue is that the Sport models have a wider frame, and a lot of the aftermarket stuff that is so awesome on the rest of the Sidekicks, doesn't FIT the Sport model.  I'd love to have a 1.8 or a 2.0 in my 95 Kick!

Does the 1.8 have a distributor?
I know the 2.5 V6 does NOT.

I had a sport too. Loved that car but I couldn't tow my trial rig with it so I had to let it go so I could buy my Ram. Should of kept it the monthly payment on it was 121.00.

Anyhow there is some mods for it. If you have been to Rocky Roads site the Rocksteady lift kit is on a sidekick sport.  Looks pretty damn good too.

There is also a guy that modified a Calmini kit to fit his sport too but I can't remember the site.
