Stock Samurai = Max tire size???
« on: July 27, 2006, 07:21:38 PM »
I would love to put a lift on my new Samurai, but funds are lacking now.  But I need new tires
for it and was wondering what size I can squeeze on stock?  235x75x15  ?????

I need tires now and will lift later.  Also if I go up to igger tires how much power
will I loose??

Thanks,

T

Was that the front bumper?  My front stock bumper is gone and it has a tow bumper
and a brushguard.  So maybe it will not rub?   How about the rear of the front tire?
Any rubbing on the body?   Did you really notice a huge lose of power?

Can anyone tell me if you can just use new Leafs to get more lift like an 1" or 2"??

Thanks for answering stupid questions.

If your only going up an inch or so shackles will do the job, and they are dirt cheat.  I made a homemade 2" body lift with some 2" square tubing.  It was a little more work than I expected due to the bolts in the passenger area being hidded, I had to drill some holes to get at them from the top, cut them flush from the bottom, then drill through them, but I only spent about $20-50 for the whole lift.

My husband runs 235/75/15 mud tires on his unlifted Samurai.  He had to beat flat a lip inside the wheelwell.  They rub when he flexes (if you can call it that!) but not on the street.  Different tread might be better.

Mine ran 235's before the spring over, but there pretty stuffed.  but a spring over lift can be done for under 100.00, just need to be able to weld or know someone who does... I would wait and do the spring over.

Ok,

So who makes a "cheap" spring over lift out there?  Would shakles do it?  Or whatever you think might be the best way to fit 235's under it??  Also anyone have an answer on how much power I might loose?
Will 5th gear still exist and 68mph?  Thanks.

x2 - an easy 4.5" lift.
With a spring over, you could run up to a 31" tire.

"x2"  I don't understand man?  Who makes this lift?

My problem is that I just don't have the $$$ for re-gearing now.  I'm guessing like
$2000 for a Trail Tough lift and then gears.  I think I would be happy with 235's
if I could use stock gears for now............
