cigarette lighter not working...
« on: July 30, 2006, 09:29:25 AM »
ok i'm no electrician, especially when it comes to vehicles, so does anyone have any easy starting points i could look at to try and figure out why my cigarette lighter isn't working?  i did check the fuse and the back of the lighter to make sure it was plugged in and it is so now what?  :P  could it be the lighter itself not making good contact?  i guess i could take a voltmeter and test the power wires running into it eh and run back from there?  guess i just answered my question too :P  oi...

I would test the wire at the back of the lighter socket with a voltmeter. If it has power then either the lighter or socket itself is bad. Both the socket and the lighter itself have been generic parts in every vehicle that I've ever messed with in the past. I would assume these are too. In my zuki the socket itself is rusty so it is hard to get anything to make contact in it.

The lighter socket is only hot when the key is on,
have you tried the lighter only when turned off ???

you could always quit smoking ;D
j/k

in my sammy i used a heavier wire on both the hot and the neutral so you could run hi power stuff off of it(spotlights, inverters)
and it works all the time

ok, i'm just an idiot :P  i guess the lighter part just doesn't stay pushed in until it's hot but if i hold it in it'll 'fire' up so to speak....  someone make this a sticky as "ddevil is an idiot" please  :-[
