just a few questions
« on: August 09, 2006, 01:07:52 AM »
i just have a few questions, since i got another 89 sidekick.

1. with the calmini 6" combo lift, they say 32" tires will fit. will 33's fit without trimming? i wont be rockcrawling with this 'kick, so my suspension wont be flexing very much.

2. if the 33's wont fit without trimming the fenders, could i just add in coil spacers to clear the tires? (the spacers from sky manufacturing)

3. i need to rebuild the 1.6L 8valve engine, and replace the head. is the calmini rebuild kit worth the price? also, are the remanufactured heads from hawk strictly suzuki any good?

4. in your opinion, which is a better tire for daily driver, mud bog, and dirt trail use? dick cepek radial f/cII or nitto terra grappler?

thanks for your help and opinions
by the way...this sidekick is a replacement for my other one, my dad bought it from me, and the 2 kicks are almost identical, but the new one needs work. i'll post pics as soon as i find my camera.

Well I had 5" of lift and 31s rub on the fender.  I also have a back space of 2.75".  I figure the 33s might rub at full lock.

If you wanna add coil spacers on top of the calmini lift you will also have to make longer drop brackets for the diffs

I have a '92 4dr with Calmini 6" and with 2.75 backspacing the Pro Comp X-terrain 31X10.50's rubbed on the rear of the front fender.  A little hammering takes care of it though.  Minimal tweaking

I await the answer to the rebuild kit as I am in the same boat with my 16v

With mine, I have Calmini 6"lift   32's tires  15x8 with the 2 3/4"inch backspacing.
Dailydriving, didn't need fender trimming.
Went wheeling. Needed trimming.

do you think 33s would fit for daily driving? im not worried about a little rubbing, as the 235/75R15's i have on it now rub the fenders a little. i just dont want chunks of fender/tire flying off on the street. when wheeling, i usually only go through mud bogs, which dont really require suspension travel, so if it will work on the street, it should work in the mud. thanks! :)

Actually not really. When I put the 32"s on. I trimmed the inside of the front fender.
You couldn't tell from the outside.
You could trim the inside of the front fender but the rear will rub the front of the rear arch (w/33's).
Lil trimming there too.
