installing ac in my 87 sammy
« on: August 12, 2006, 05:05:37 PM »
Being from the suburbs of Denver and now living in N.W. Arkansas, I thought it would be nice to have A.C. in my sammy. I heard they are not the coldest but got to be better than none at all.  I don't do alot of off roading at this point, but will maybe buy a beefed up one later for that purpose.

I found what appears to be a mostly complete A.C. sytem out of an 88.
I took my chances and jumped on it for a total of $37.00. How can I lose?

The question list:

Whose put one in?
What do I need to watch out for?

Is there some sort of step by steps?
Is there anything I should do to this system prior to putting it in as far as rebuild, test etc?
What about mods or upgrades to boost the cold air output?
How about converting to (r22)? -- would it make it less cool or even be worth it--pros and cons?

I just want it in and running ice cold and not leaking. I would conceivabley use it in the winter on a warm day if that's what it requires to keep it from breaking down and losing the refridgerant.

Thanks for any help.
Adam
