« on: August 30, 2006, 08:58:27 PM »

I am a good backyard mechanic but green as grass with rearends, i have just blown the rearend out of my 87 lw samurai and my uncle has two sj10`s i could have parts off of. thanks for any help.

Samurai's and 410's are not much the same.

Transfer case (can't remember if you need to mess with flanges or make some hybrid driveshafts), some body parts, and wheels.

I know that  an 85 410 will run with a samurai distributer cap.

LIke Zutefish said, not a lot is interchangable. It would be worth grabbing the tcases if they are the earlier type (lower geared). Flanges need to be swapped over.

Flanges are the same as the early year Samurai axels.

The Transfer Case cannot use the lower gear sets available for the Samurai, but the cases bolt up exactly the same so you can just swap in a Samurai T-Case without a problem.

The 410 Axels are 3" shorter then the Samurai axels, I would just swap them out for Samurai axels.  The Calipers are the same though.

The Transmission has a different bolt up then the Samurai, so those aren't swapable.

I would call Hawk Suzuki for any random parts you need as they are familiar with the 410 and can get you the right parts the first time.  You can also find parts on E-Bay out of the UK pretty easily.

Flanges are the same as the early year Samurai axels.

The early models (1983-85) that we have here have smaller flanges than the 413s and Samurais. They are easy to spot as they have the thinner solid propshafts. Tcases on those models are about 10% lower geared in high ratio. 410 parts are very easy to come by in the UK as there were a lot of them sold over here and they weren't discontinued until around 1988. However a lot of them were Spanish built and there are a number of differences, mainly trim and electrics but also stuff like CVs and brakes.

That is wierd.  I have an 84 SJ-410 over here, Canadian model, and the transfer case was a direct swap out for the smaller Sammy case.  It also has the lower 10% gears as well.
