Water leak on the floor
« on: September 15, 2006, 05:14:55 PM »
Ok my next problem I have had 3 kicks now and all 3 leaked the bulk of it seems to run in down the fire wall and fill up the floor with water.  Does any one know where the water comes from and how to stop it.  I think some silicone would stop it and i am sure someone else has had the same problem so please help thanks........CJ

Hi cj11,

I too have had this happen. Tracked it down to the drain bungs in the fresh air intake being blocked ( the grill bit behind the bonnet and below the wind screen ) - cleaned them out and problem gone  :)

Also happened when the front disappeared during a river crossing  ??? with the heater set on "fresh air intake" LOL  ::)

Every year I go down to Antartica doing some work for the Yanks - they wander What The F|removethispart|@$K I am talking about too - good bit of humour LOL ( actually pissing my pants with laughter right now ). The ones that know me just say " don't worry about him, he's a KIWI"  :)

You guys  ;)

CJ11 - no just hose it out after you have cleaned out the drain bungs ( if that is what you call bungs  ;) )

pulled it all apart and if you are talking about the 2 notches under the plastic cover they are clean nothing in there at all it is raining here and they are dry inside. Any other ideas on where the water could come from.

Take your fenders off and check behind them on the bit of the firewall that the fenders cover about 2' below the windshield.  Did this recently with my '96 and yeah...had some spooky rust there.  I bet if I took my '90's fenders off I'd find holes.  Anytime it rains that thing has water slooshing around in the footwells.

I was convinced it was a windshield seal problem until I took the fenders off and saw that. :P

I cleaned the rust up really well on mine on both sides, hit it with Chassis Saver to stop the rust, and then globbed Herculiner into every bit of it when I did the rest of the body.  That should stop the leaks.
I've also seen people use silicone sealant on other vehicles.

Have you put anything thought the main wirering harness rubber boot like uhf lead, spotlight wires, etc.
Water will run off the edge of the rubber seal at the back of bonnet under the front window and straight onto the harness travel along and into the car.

I'm having the same issues with my tracker leaking and have tried all the remedies listed here to no avail. I was wondering if you figured out what it was yet CJ11 before I take my dash apart to find the leaks?
