i'm going to change the oil in the front diff, the first thing i heard of when i bought my GV was the front diff.

i know that i should overfill, but how much??

my vitara consultant won't pick up the phone (vonder why )

i THINK the oil level should be at the TOP of the filling hole, how high should i lift it in the front?


my GV is a 1999 2.0 TD if that makes any difference, think it was in 2001 they relocated the filling hole?


think i need bigger tyres and spring lift....

The word I read somewhere around here was that you guys with the "low fill plugs" were supposed to jack the front of the truck up a bit, fill to the line, replace the plug, and then lower the truck.  That way you get extra fluid in there.

I dunno how high you should jack it up though.  Maybe measure the difference between a newer GV and yours and jack it up so that the fill plug is at that height?

I haven't heard about "low fill plugs".  My Suzuki FSM just says have the vehicle level and fill to the hole.

Where does the advice to "overfill" come from?

At least here in the States the first couple model years had the fill plug a bit low.  This lead to some of the front end problems the 99's, 00's, etc have had.  Part of the fix that I've heard about is to simple overfill them.  If you compare say a '99 to a '03 you'll notice the fill plug location is higher...at least here in the States.

Sounds like I should be concerned.  My 2.5 litre is a '98 (we got them a year before you) and the PO said it was built in Canada.

The VIN starts JSAFTD62V00 - anyone know if that's Canada or Japan built?

Ours starts like that and it was made in Japan I beleive.  I think JS is Japanese and the Canadian made ones start with something else.  Although I wasn't aware if the Suzukis were made by CAMI, I thought only the Trackers were.

Jack the car 30degrees and then fill

The anvil's resovoir and plug design does not provide the front diff with enough oil

All so the 30 deg. thing was fixed in 2002.  If you look at your diff and see a casting for a 2nd  hole just below the fill hole you don't need to jack the front up.  Just fill it till oil starts to come back out the hole.

i havent looked that much in the FSM yet, but think it is supposed to be 1,5 or 1,7 litres in the gear box. changed at the transfer when i had to remove the gearbox earlyer this year, just the rear diff left then

From my FSM, the capacity of the FRONT Diff is 1.0 liters (2.1/1.8 US/Imp pt)

The capacity of the REAR Diff is 2.2 liters (4.6/3.9 US/Imp. pt.)

Manual Gearbox is 2.7L

Transfer is 1.7L

Front diff OVER fill it. Put about 1.2-1.3 this works it was posted here before. Every diff we did 1L is fucked. My dads xl7 and other friends GV we did 1.2-1.3 and no probs with failure.

Posted awhile ago i dunno if it was SUZUKI portagal. Or some were else they said to jack the truck in a certin deg incline and fill it up 1.3L
