wheel nuts, open or acorns
« on: September 23, 2006, 07:24:51 AM »
Any opintions?  Open wheel nuts at about 50cents ea. or acorns at about 2dollars each?

I switched out wheels from the stock alloys with a somewhat conical bolt hole to steel wheels with a straight wall bolt hole.

Since my wheels were sabatoged I was thinking of going to open nuts that would give instant visual clue if they have been loosened and I also could mark them to show if they have been turned.

My acorns dont have much surface contact with the wheel while the open nuts from the spare seem to have a flatter surface and make more contact.

open nutz are nice cause there less $$ but I dont like them cause they are exposed to weather conditions more, and if u live somewhere like i do (minnesota) the winter, and road salt are enough to rust them faster.    Ive had a few barely come off and when they did they stripped out the threads on the stud.   So I stick with acorns or others like that of course there $$ if u need to buy alot like I did.
