brake upgrades
« on: September 24, 2006, 09:27:21 AM »
Are there any brake upgrades out there for gen II trackers?   ???

Last night I when down a fairly steep grade for a 3 km, the brakes started to fade at the bottom and when I stopped at my destination the rotors were the "not so nice" purplely blue colour from overheating.  :(

I am running 265 / 75 / 16's so the rotating mass is quite a bit more than stock.

I've seen slotted rotors on ebay that would help.  Also change how you bake instade of staying on the brakes go on and off giving them a chance to cool down will help too.

What truck u got exactly.

GV Stock rotors and carbon pads and i changed brake fluid with a dot3 550 boiling point and adusted rears. I tow 2000-3000lbs plus people in the truck with the 30" tires and never got brake fade even in the hills.

When was the last time u had ur brakes at least serviced?

Sloted rotors are good and bad.
1 u will chew threw brake pads.
2 if u are glaszing ur brakes slotted will be good.

Sloted rotors prevent glazing of the pads

I'm running SP Performance drilled/slotted rotors in the front of my GV.  They are pricey, but very high quality.  Find 'em here:

http://www.sfxperformance.com

My pads are EBC Greenstuff 7000 Series Extreme Heavy Duty SUV pads.  Sometimes they're on Ebay.  If not, you can probably find 'em elsewhere.  Make sure to get the 7000 series if you want real heavy duty.  I'm not haulin' much these days, but I've got 30" tires, so wanted to beef up the brakes.

Good luck.

The brakes are new all the way around within the last 45 days. I was really suprised as this was the first time I'd ever seen that with my Tracker.  I think I'll step up to the cross drilled and slotted rotors with go pads just to be safe!
