Samurai Power Steering
« on: September 27, 2006, 02:49:44 PM »
What is the best power steering out there for a samurai.  I have used the sidekick setup in one samurai, wasnt happy with it,as it struggled with 31's and locked front end. not enough power.  Looking for something strong enough to turn 36" tires in the rocks and yet compact enough to fit.  Let me know your opinion and some pics would be great.  I was thinking about possibally using the sidekick steering gear with a more powerfull pump, has anyone done this and will the sidekick steering gear hold up to more pressure and larger tires.

I heard these were weak as well, not enough power to turn large tires.

Wow thats crazy,  We got a sammy in our group who has 31's 4:16 T-case gears, and locked front and rear.  He did the tracker/kick powersteering setup. and can use 1 finger to turn the wheel.   maybe it depends on year of powersteering.??

I run the sidekick power steering, got it from locjaw works fine has turned 32x11.50's and 31x11.50's locked in the front and can do it with one hand with ease.
Just letting you know what I'm running OH and if you are thinking of not getting power steering and running a locker up front with 31's' or bigger ask drone637 to let you drive his rig you will run out and spend as much money as needed for power steering.

I have seen the kick powersteering on several samurai's, I guess as long as you dont run bigger than a 31" tire youll be fine.  Just trying to see what else is out there.   I currently run a ford pickup steering gear and saginaw pump on my other trail rig, it does excellent with the 36" tires, problem is too big and bulky.
