i have 94 16 val and i am planning on taking a wheeling trip that will last about 2 weeks. i run 31" ltb swampers, stock R&P, stock t-case, new clutch, & new alternator. i am looking to compile a list of parts to carry with me. as a good zuk man, sorry heather person, should i would like to keep wieght to as low as possible. i don't have time for a diet sorry.

i have the recovery equipment covered. i do have a set of 33" ltb's i was planning on sticking with the 31 to keep breakage to a minimum.


OH ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE CARRIED WHILE WHEELING. Due to the fact of any given time i could be up to 45 miles from camp with no roads to run.

Don't forget your towel, and whatever you do, DON'T PANIC!!!

Standard gearing, huh?  Well, let's see - with standard gearing, and 31 X 10.50's I still managed to break the aluminum mounting tab on my front 3rd member.  You really, really don't want this to happen to you!  So if you can do ANYTHING to strengthen it (there are mods on this site, somewhere), it will help, because replacing the carrier is a real pain!

For example, breaking a front cv means just getting by with 2wd (and a buddy to tow/winch when that aint enuf). Breaking a rear axle tho ... nice to have spares there. Idler arm perhaps ...

The stupid stuff like broken fan/alt belt or rad hose are also good one to cover. Since your replaced the alt, you might have old belts to carry (or change them for new and carry the old ones). The rad hoses can sometimes be patched good enuf with duct tape (to get you out), but if you have spares bring em (they don't take much room). Belts and hoses are cheap and small and good insurance.

If your going to play in water, fluids are good too (i.e. diff/tranny, oil, PS). At a minimum enuf between you and the rigs your with.

If you'll take small light things with you you can even put them in the hole behind the tail-lights / inner covers in the back, or maybe even in the back door, most of those you can take out very easily and there's a lot "secret" space in there.

Good tips fellows i will get a set of axle shafts because i have a lock-rite. i have been to several offroad parks before but this is a new experiance. the guys i'm going with tell me that there r flat spots to work on a rig but no way to have a base camp and see all the park. i ahve worked my rig pretty hard and never had a break other than what i mentioned. thanks for all the input.

I would also consider a tire plugging kit (and an air pump, unless you have OBA).

OK.  Well, somebody in each group ought to carry a bag of cat litter, and garbage bags, to clean up any fluids spilled on the trail.  Nylon Cable Ties can come in real handy too.

i'm changing both cables today and will bring the old ones. good call on the oilspill kit we should always pack out what we pack in.

I carried a spare t-case down to and around Moab last year.  Along with 5 spare axle shafts, hubs and all the equip to change on the trail.  (jack stands, oil drip pan, 3 gals fluid, etc)

4 doors rock.

Any one built removable pannels for the back, by the rear seats, and or the tail gate. I have been thinking of these maods to make better use of the little space I have, just wondering whos alreadyt done this.

In mine you can just pull the rear panels out, only the tail gate is a little harder as I have checker plate in there
