Manual locking hub question?????
« on: October 11, 2006, 03:03:31 PM »
I was reading the other post on this subject and there was talk of cone washers. What are those and do I need them to install the Warn hubs? I would like to put them on this Friday. ???

I'd like to know this as well, as I'd like to do this mod too.

Also, could you guys post links to retailers of these hubs? Best price I've found so far is 220$ CAN locally.

Thanks guys!

I bought my hubs from RRO.
I installed them with the hardware supplied, loctited, and torqued to their specs.
I have no idea what they mean by "cone" washers?!? wtf are they ?! ???

I have beat on them really hard since installing them with no issues! ;)

The only issue is I have to get out of the rig and click them on instead of shift on the fly!!!!
I'm too lazy !!! LOL! :D

Thanks man I could not afford to wait to put this on. I'm driving from So Cal to Colorado next week and wanted these on. Hopefully save me some gas and wear and tear. I have to replace an axle seal too. I send pics of the hubs installed when I stop in Moab! ;D

I have the "premium" warn's on my '01 and they installed with no problems.  I didn't know what cone washers were either - perhaps they are the standard split ring lock washers that are supplied?  Either way the install is easy and I've had zero problems with them in the past 2 years.  I got them from RRO and they shipped quickly - no problems there either.

Silly newb question but the advantage of a manual hub is so that the axle disconnects from the wheel? Saving wear and tear on the diff?

This has nothign to do with the diff locking or anything right?

It saves wear and tear and some people get better gas milage with them. Also one reason alot of people like them in the offroad world is for when break an axle you can disconnect them and limp off the trail. With are puny front axles it is good to have some insurance.

Aren't the cone washers only for the factory Suzuki Sidekick hubs?  I think suzuki does not sell them seperately.

Is it true that the suzuki ones are stronger than the warn ones??

I run the suzuki ones there good but change the seals on them. I also noticed a increase in gas millage on the highway.

I just installed manual hubs of a junk yard zuk on my 2002 today. What seal are you referring to? The thin rubber o-ring that's under the hub flange? or something else?
