Orange rig final update???
« on: October 11, 2006, 08:31:22 PM »
I was considering writing a final artical for the orange rig but I have decided not to so Im letting the cat out of the bag. A little over a month ago it took a little cartwheel. The damage was severe. Every panel was damaged including the floor. the only thing not damaged in the incedent was the tailgate...however it has prior damage. ::)

see the kid in the blue shirt, he was inside, thats a smile on his face. The arm is fron the girl. She was fine untill we couldnt get her seatbelt off. It got jammed and she started to panic. I think it had dirt in it. I got it unbuckled and then she was fine.

The reason I decided not to write a "final update" is cause its not really that final. As I posted in the Rockstar update the rockstar is under the knife. I am combining the orange rig and the Rockstar. Actually a lot of the orange rig is going into the rockstar. The new front suspension that I just did the writeup on, 9 inch, 16valve, wireing harness, grille ;D(momento), among other little odd and ends. So really the heart of the orange rig is still alive and kickin. hopefully I will build something that was better than the 2 of the could have been separately. Im trying to see the bright side. ::) ;D Its still though, Ive got a lot of great memories in that rig.

What I was doing before I rolled was pretty cool. However, when I actually rolled I wasn't really doing anything all that hard, I just let my guard down, slipped up, and got bit in the ass.

I can't beleive that's the end of it, that truck's like a legend.

Ive been running that rig on the edge for 5+ years and over 200,000miles! Think of all the crap ive gotten away with. It was bound to happen eventually. That being said It does break my heart. Ive had the rig sitting in my garage for over a month just trying to decide what to do with it. I didnt have the heart to cut it up but at the same time I hated coming home and looking at my baby like that. That rig has meant more to me than any other rig I have ever owned. Logic tells me that rebuilding it would be silly seeing as the frame is bent from years of abuse, body is trashed and the motor has 220,000 miles on it. The motor still runs great but how many more miles will I realisticly get after all the time and money spent rebuilding. I opted to move forward and build a new rig out of the best parts between the 2 rigs I have.

I heard you rolled it but I didnt realize it was at the shale pit! I can see how you could roll there.

The shale pit was recently excavated, its a lot harded than when you were there. There was a 4 foot wall at the top. I made it at least a dozen times. the key was to hit it at a high rate o speed. I started out alone but after I had figured it out I started giving people rides. That was my last planned ride. I had been turning around and driving back down it but on the last run someone was parked in front of me so I just thought Id back down it. I forgot how far of a drop it was. :-[

Man it's great to hear you decided to keep her going, even if it's combining her with the Rock Star. That is going to make on hell of a rig. A light weight Rock Star car with all of the bad ass parts off of you baby. That thing will be indistructable  8) I know that first cut is going to be tough no matter what your going to do.

Your question about the motor: They spontainously throw a rod immidately after a realy cool trip just before you hit 300,000  ;D So a rebuild is probably in order  ;)

Bigger better and stronger, I cant wait to see this one when it's done  :o
