new here and looking at buying a tracker
« on: October 11, 2006, 10:51:19 PM »
Hi,
I am new here and looking at buying a tracker. The one i am looking at is a 93 4x4 with 5 speed. It has 112000 miles on it. I am looking at it because I have always liked the idea of a convertible 4x4. This will not be my daily driver just something to mod and play with off road. So is there anything to look for when I go to look at it? Are there any common problems I should know about? Anything else I should know about?
Thanks for the help,

JRigby

all your standard mechanical checks - timing belt, service history, etc - but lift up the carpets and check for rust, especially in the back.

Knowing where you live helps... a 93 in the South could look like it was just made.... however, in the North, and along the coast, you could have hidden rust. Rockers, floors, under the rear bumper cover are common rot areas. My first one looked good, and had low milage, but was rotton, and I didn't know it, I searched for months before I found a good one for the right price. Check all the body mounts(on the body) for cracks and rust. If you have a good body and frame, and it runs good, you have a winner!

Thanks again,

I would recomend looking for the 16 engine for more power but that is just me. I want one that came with all the goodies. Or I should say I'm waiting to buy the one I want when the owner decides to sell, keep hounding him for it :).
