Hello,I have an 88.5 sammi and did the ever popular light swap,putting my lights in my tailgate.I have them wired thru the gate ribs with the wires coming out by the hinge.I was wondering where everyone who did this swap ran their wires from there and where and how did you mount the converter....thanks for the time and help......Joey

Did you switch to a Two Taillight system (similar to a trailer) or did you stay with the traditional 4 light and two reverse light setup?

i went to the 2 light system with a converter,i have tail lights and brake lights...i haven't put a flasher relay in yet so i don't know about blinkers but if i have the other two i don't see a problem....i hope ....lol.Now i am having a tough time thinking of where run the wires and where to mount the converter.i was thinking of just going thru a drain hole in the back but i think that exposes the wires in the bed to much and looks kinda half ass,i did a nice job so far and i kinda want to keep everything tight and out of the way.Thanks for the help....Joey

On my SJ I just tucked everything in behind the bumper location, but I also kept my lights on the bumper.

Instead of playing around with a relay, just go to a auto parts store and pick up a converter to plug in a trailer lights (Flat plug style, 3 wires + ground.  Like for a utility trailer).  Then just wire that into your new two light system.  Something similar to this should do fine.

If you go this route, you can buy two types.  One will have your brake lights over-ride the turn signal.  The other will do the opposite, if your turn signal is on it will not light up the brake light on that side of the vehicle.

As for how to run the wires, I would drill a hole on the back side of the tailgate, then drill a matching hole on the side of the Suzuki.  Then drill a hole from the bottom up, and run the wires through there.

Make it like running the speaker wires on your car's door.

I tucked the converter in the little space behind the gas filler neck and ran the wires in black wire looms along the little lip on the inside of the tub and put it thru a hole i drilled in the rubber plug in the d/s rear of the tub and out to the factory harness.I wired it all back into the factory plugs and just plugged all together and wire tied it up.....All works well,the only wrinkle i have is when i have the brakes applied the blinkers go fast....i guess i have to check my grounds again lol.....thanks for all the input it sure is a help to a novice such as myself...Joey

Actually, that means you did it right.

What is happening is when you apply the brakes, the converter is disconnecting your rear turn signal.  Your blinker then runs really fast to let you know that you have a lightbulb out.  If you have someone stand on the brakes with your turn signal on and check the lights, you will see that you have only brake lights working.

The way to fix it is to buy a more expensive converter.  That way your rear turn signal will still work with your brakes on.  I'm not sure what way you need it set to be road legal.
