« on: October 25, 2006, 03:21:43 PM »
do you guys think a suzuki would be good for my first 4X4 project???they seem fun and not to expensive to modify. But with a lift and bigger tires are they really slow on the street? and are the motors reliable? And do any of you guys with a samurai live in the san antonio area i would like to see a lifted one in person. sorry for all the newbie questions but thanks for the help   ;D

Read through some of the threads and the articles contained on the website. Then ask away...

I think a samurai would be an excellent first project. If you gear it correctly with the large tires, you still can go freeway speeds. The motors are very reliable and if you do get a lemon, it just gives you an excuse to upgrade to a sidekick motor. Go through this website and start reading away. Also here's a link to one of my favorite builds.

can be bought cheap
can be modded cheap
will outperform any 4x4 out there with equal $$$$ invested
lots of aftermarket support

How can you go wrong?

I agree with the following exception:

will outperform any 4x4 out there with LESS $$$$ invested

I would go with a sidekick they are easy to modify and great off road. Can not lift as high as a sammy for as cheap but I think the are better off road. Never ride anything else

I've driven Samurai's in the past. When I went to look for my own, I couldn't find one, so I settled for a Sidekick, I'm glad I did, and now I'm on my second one ;)

hello
here is my 2 cents worth on this. i think suzuki samurai was the best small suv on the market for the money hands down. like the other guys said they are plenty of after market parts for them and does'nt cost a arm and leg to keep up. i have 3 samurais, 2 sidekicks, 1 tracker that i give pure hell in the woods out of all them my sammys rule. i'm driving why the rest of my buddys are pushing and pulling there fords ,jeeps and ect. just my 2 cents worth not putting noones rigs down at all. but if pittle of cu had not done what he did to suzuki they would still be around here in the states today i hope that no good SOB get ran over with a hummer and draged till theres not enough skin left on him for a dna test.   and thats all i have to say.
rick.

all i remember is that it's a mix of merchedes up front/audi80 rear springs that lifts approx. 3" cutted half a coil or so to make them fit

+3"home grown body lift

it was really NOT expensive ;)

"little bigfoot" (at least i call it that :)) is a very cool ride, needed some trimming to fit those 33" tyres ;D

i can ask geared to give you the info on parts numbers on the springs

By the way this is my bro's account he just left the cpu on so I figured I'd say a couple things about this.........Yea, if your a fag and dont wanna pic up any chicks. Id go for a chevy or at least an american-made truck.

Good luck with the sami's bitches

P.S. Id have to say it is an alright 4x4 if your broke and you wanna look like a little bitch.  I also have to say since my bro got stuck, he has put a body lift on his and a susp. lift not to mension the eletric winch.  But I still think my 97 tahoe is a bigger, bader, and a better looking beast then his tiny sami will ever be.  The only thing I hate is he can go through smaller trails but theres always bigger and better around (like football fields)  Those are too much fun, I recomend not to do that.
