Another way to break C/Vs
« on: December 27, 2004, 05:41:11 AM »
I was playing in a swamp yesterday and taking it easy as not to break any thing because Today I was supposed to be going on a trip and........

Well I guess I learned some thing, If you get enough creek weed wrapped around your axle it will bind up on the A arm lock your axle and brake you C/V and bend the sh!t outa the flange :'(

Any body ever bent the flange before ?

I have a spear inner axle but no spare C/V so that ='s no trip Today  :'(  :'(  :'(

I did that but it was caused by a nut backing off of one of the bolts. It twisted enough to bend the inner flange and distroyed the cup.

That was one off the  things I was wondering  about while cutting the weed away seams I only put the diff in the other week I though I might not have done them up properly but they were still tight. Pity I didn't have the camera with me  you would believe how much weed had wrapped around the axle  :o

That flange is part of the long side axle,
bend it straight, weld that cup back together,
get some 5/8" (sorry I don't know the mm size)
balls in that CV and go wheeling, put a CV boot
on it if you have one, if not stay out of the bad stuff,
but then again, who cares, you are going to replace it
soon after the trip, so go have fun.

Go get a NAPA spare axle ($70).  They have a LIFETIME warranty.  I've never broken mine, though!

No Napa here.

I decided to try and find a CV Locally today but  it's a Stat Holiday here and the only 2 places open had none so I then though I'd just check the others and re- grease them thats when I found this...

As this diff is on loan from my local dismantler  I'm going to give up while I'm ahead and still have enough parts to piece it together again and return it to them.

Then I'll wait for my anvil and 5:83's to arrive throw the 5:83's in the G/V 3rd with an ARB and see how that goes.

Yeah, super busy - and the Gnewt is out of service right now!  I had to steal her alternator to keep my 4-door running - I'll get it repaired or replaced soon, I hope!

Thinking about Moab, so this is where I come to "think about it" with my friends!  I guess I should get all my fluids replaced before Moab.  Oh!  I got the new Spidertrax Super Dooper Hub Bolt Kit for Christmas!  Gotta get that installed!
