Ok,  since im new and this seems to be a frequently used forum, Im going to burn your ears with another problem.  Heh fix one and move on to the other I guess.

Anyways my problem is that this 91 4X4 4-door sidekick I have has really poor acceleration.  I mean it has no power when I give it gas, I have to feather the gas peddle to get the sweet spot in order for it to go at a decent speed ( not trying to race her or anything, just looking for movement).

Another thing with the acceleration is that when I gun it.  It is very boggy.  It takes awhile for it to get going.  I just need an area to start looking.  this thing has a new head/gasket/timing chain.  I just bought it off a buddy who got a newer vehicle and this is my winter beater for now.

And while I'm at it I just remembered something else I was curious about.  It has to do with the locking hubs.  I didnt get a manual with it and I was curious as to how I find out if its an auto or manual locking system on the hubs?

Im not to sure about the boggyness your talking about when you accelerate.  Im sure someone on here will know.  But i do know about the manual and auto hubbs.  So i guess ill take a stab at your list of problems haha.

Auto hubbs will not have anything on them, what i mean by "on them" is the dial that you spin to lock the hubbs.  If its a manual it will say "free" and "locked".

If its an auto lock hubb there will be nothing at all,  no selectors or any of that stuff.

i hope this helps some what, and if it dosnt im pretty srue there will be 5 other people saying it hahha just take the avrage.

check the timing first. that could cause hesitation. maybe a tune-up?
as for the hubs, just look at them. if you can turn them, they're manual. otherwise, auto. i dont know an easier way to describe this. anyone else could probably describe this better, and you might beneft from looking through ACK's FAQ.

Ok gotcha on the hub.  Makes sense that its manual since the selector swithes are on the hubs.

As for timing I think that I'll have to borrow a light from someone.  Im just going by the rpm guage.  If its like other manufacturers, its not accurate.  It shows it idleing at about 700 rpm. 

And the poor acceleration is intermittent,  It goes good one time then is a real pig the next.  I've never run into a problem like this with other vehicles of mine.

When you check the timing you will need to put a jumper across the diagnostic socket.
