Rim interchangeability
« on: November 21, 2006, 03:25:00 PM »
Sorry if this has been covered before...
We have a '97 Sidekick 4-door, stock vehicle. We want to get a spare set of rims for winter tires. Is the bolt pattern and locking hub cut-out the same between Chev/Suzi/other, how about year and model? We are hoping to find used, and we'd like to prevent wild-goose chases. Thanks for any info. :) :)

This was from a posting by Quaddawg on zuwharrie.com

5 on 5.5" circle is a pretty common pattern.  You need to watch out for the center hole size, or do some machining.  The 5.5 pattern fits ALL Jeep CJ's... but not TJ's or YJ's, or X or WJ's for that matter.

Certain older 5 lug Scouts, certain 5 lug Dodge Trucks, and 5 lug, older Ford Trucks... there are a few more, but you get the idea.

I think I have a chart I made up around here somewhere...

Years   Makes and models that will interchange with each other    LUG SIZE
46-86   Jeep      ALL CJ'S                                                       1/2
85-01   Dodge    RAM 1500 2WD                                               1/2
80-93                    RAM 4WD W/HUBS                                    1/2
94-01                    RAM 1500 4WD                                         1/2
02-04                    RAM 1500 (NEW BODY)  2/4WD                    9/16
49-96   Ford        ALL 1/2 PICKUP 4WD                                    1/2
49-96                    ALL 1/2 PICKUP 2WD                                 1/2
66-96                    FULL SIZE BRONCO                                    1/2
86-94   Suzuki    SAMURAI 2-4 WD                                          12X1.25
89-98                    SIDEKICK 2-4 WD                                     12X1.25
ALL   International 1/2 TON SCOUT I / II                                  1/2

MAKE SURE YOU MEASURE THE CENTER BORE FOR THE FRONT WHEELS< ESPECIALLY ON 2WD models!!!

Hi, thanks for the info on rims, I had seen stuff like that in here, but I wasn't sure if the rims being discussed were for stock vehicles, or modifieds. I guess we just have to start hunting. Thanks alot!

I believe they are talking about stock rims. Aftermarket gets into back spacing and every other option available. Happy hunting.

I picked up a set of junkyard rims the other day, every rim with 5 on 5.5 I checked had between 3.5-3.75" of backspacing so thats not a big issue.  I'm not sure about the CJ's but any Chrysler or Ford light truck rim will be wider than a stock TracKick's, my "new" rims are 15x6.5 (1 inch wider).

Any year Geo Tracker/Suzuki Sidekick should have rims identical in backspacing/width/center-hole etc.  Not sure on Chevy Trackers, Samis or Grand Vitaras...
