If you are getting marginal grip, you can try one of those screw gripping compounds or mix up your own goop with some fine sand.  This may get you just enough "traction" to turn the fastener.

That said, when in doubt, I replace bad fasteners when I can.

I got em all tight with locktite. I will  try to find some screws that are allen or torx in the meantime. I think I like something other than phillips, and these don't look to have the posidrive ribs.  Next time I open it up, I may switch them or atleast have them on hand. Petro works sells the screws, but their's are apparently phillips, and pretty soft. Maybe they should switch to allen or torx and save us all a trip to the bolt shop.

Lowes carries some #3 phillips drivers manufatured bu Bosch that have ribs on the gripping surface. I found them worthless for normal use because the screws stick to the driver, but for this they may work well.

They are #3 Phillips bits 1/4" drive, 2" long.  The kind you would use in a screwgun etc.

I think the most helpful thing I should have done (in hind-sight of course) would have been to blow out the screw heads with compressed air. Those bosch bits probably might have been effective somewhat, not sure how much. Next time will definetly go smoother.
