front 3 link questions
« on: November 21, 2006, 06:22:19 PM »
I want to put a solid axle in with a 3 link but i had know idea it was this complicated i just thought that you put the links in the same place and made sure your caster was right and the axle was centered and you were good but i have done some research tonight and holy crap i am really confused. There are some really complicated calculations that you need to know. I guess my question is how the heck to you find out all of this junk? The tracker is gonna end up being a full-time offroader but driven in the winter but i still want it to be right just in case i can't afford to do my plan, and i dont know how accurate these calculations have to be for off road purposes. I have thought about just taking the easy way out and having someone do it for me but i really would like to learn how to do this kind of stuff it is really interesting after you get by the confusion. Actually that is the part that interests me. Has anyone done the three link up front on a trackkick? Do you have any photos or more information about the swap? I am wanting to run 32in with a beafed up samy axle because i want to stick with the 5x5.5 bolt pattern. i plan to put 2.5 wheel spacers on it( i'd really rather not but what can you do when you are on a tight budget) Any info or pics would greatly be appriciated.

i did a three link on the front of my 88 sammi in 3 days, didnt follow any of those calculations you are talking about i never even read a thread on how to do it. i just started doin it eyeballed most of the work used cherokee coils with 200,000 miles on them real flexy, the onlything you realy have to worry about is the trac bar you want it to be with little angle as possible and also make all of the links adjustable and beef mounts ;)  i broke my trac bar mount on the axle the first time out with the suspension came home welded it back on with some gussets ive wheeled it harder since and havent had a problem. it also does pretty good on the street  would do even better with a swaybar but its a wheeler so.
