Front wheel bearing 4wd
« on: January 10, 2005, 06:35:35 AM »
Are the main front wheel bearings in Track / Kicks replacable?  I have yet to have one aprat?  Looked like a Front wheel drive type unit to me (non servicable) But then i've run across a new bearing for sale on Ebay.

My new 1996 4dr is making some noise.

Yea you can replace them. The outter race is kind of a bitch to press out (if needed) The outter race is one peice and >< shaped where the cone shaped bearings slide in from each side and then torqued down. If the outter race is OK it's an easy repair. If not, I hope you have a good press.

it depends on what year. i have a 94 16 valve and it is a sold bearing that i had to press out. solid bearing is kinda misleading it is a sleeve that is pressed in and the bearings can actually come out seperatly but when u buy it it is sold as o a liniar bearing race set.

Does it look like this?

THANKS  ;)  I think  I see now...  2 bearings and 1 cone shaped race.

I'll dive into it further once I get the 83 Toyota back together (Alt/ belts/ crank seal/ & Brake Master Cyl)

Looks like one size fits all.

Thats it.  You remove the hub, then there's a snap ring that needs to be removed.

Then you press out the old, and press in the new.

The funny part comes when you put it back together.  You torque the spindal nud down to around 55lbs.

Yea thats it 8) I always went through a few of the bearings before having it all( race & bearings replaced) I can switch ou the bearings but do not have a press to take out the race. So I'll run the same race through a few bearings then take it to Jimmy to have the new stuff pressed in.
