removeing the ECM

has any body heard of removeing the ecm from the carb on a samurai? and how well does it work. Is it easy and how do you do it.  A guy on ebay said his sammy has had it removed and it runs great. Mine has problems running rough when it is cold and I think that it is all the electrical.

You should be able to find another ecm cheap. Anybody that has switched to a weber has no use for one. You might borrow one from a friend and try it.  I don't know about running one without the ecm all together. On mine, I pulled all the hoses except the vacuum advance, and a hose from the intake manifold to the charcoal canister. It seems to be running fine. All the switches are disconnected and I'll pull the ecm next. I plan on saving the parts in case it has to pass an emission test in the future. It starts effortlessly right now but I have to hold the gas for a second once it starts until it gets past the first cough. Fuel mix, idle, etc. may have to be adjusted but I haven't got that far yet. It will be cold in a couple days so I can see how it starts and runs on a cold day.

Hey first Post! and just purchased a 88.5 Sammi last week. Already ordered $5-600 worth of parts. Hope to have a pretty nice one done by Christmas.

Anyway, This one has a Weber and I was wondering what could be removed. It still has numourus sensers and on the engine, an O2 in the exhaust.

Based on what you said the ECM has no control over the distributor?????
That would be cool if I do some clean up work in the engine compartment.
This one still has a evap under the dash but no compressor so that is going to go as well.

Americas Oil problem is simple. We just can't seem to check our oil.
The oil is in Texas and Alaska .... The DIP STICKS are in Washington!

Ya I run a weber carb now, and took out the ecm long ago I removed everything plugged all the vac ports except vac advanced the rest you dont need.  and all the electrical crap around the carb is no longer needed.  just vac advanced line and your good to goo, the EGR can be removed and blocked off also.

Some of the eletrical wires that are just there unplugged I zip tied up nicely to make it look nice in there.

its behind the glove box, right below the winchy wiper motor, its pretty easy to get at, i just pulled mine out last night. Dont have a weber yet, still gotta make it pass smog.
I think its somthing like 3 plugs going into it so its nothing to fancy.
