Battery Mounting and rusted battery box
« on: December 01, 2006, 10:02:34 AM »
Hey I'm new to the Sammy and have discoverd that my battery box is gone.
I was thinking of fabing up a holder for an Otima laying on it's side in that space.
I have an 8000Lb winch so I need the power.
Using a bungee cord to hold that battery is not an option.

Before I fab I like to find out if there is something I can buy that solves the problem.

Before I totally reinvent the wheel here I thought I should ask if:

A: have others had this problem?
B: What did you do about it?

quite a few of the sammys i have seen and worked on have had pretty rotted out battery boxes, im pretty sure they see factory replacements.  Or you could go the extra mile and get the calmini dual battery tray http://www.puresuzuki.com/dual_batter_tray.htm
that is if you want to run dual batterys.
hope that helps a little bit

Wow Thats cool. I am trying to keep it light thiugh and I think one optima would be plenty.

I guess I'll just buy it and then figure out how to mount it.
I have a mig and angle iron. Cant be that tough

Optima's are well worth the coin. I've used them in car audio applications, you can't beat them.

im sure you could alter the dual battery box to hold one.  Or just roll with two batterys, i mean 2 can never hurt.

I built one this weekend. Just used 1x1 angle and 45ed it to make a 7 inch by 10 inch box.
I am going to mount a yellow top group 35 in it.

The little box bolted right in on top of the fender well easy as pie.
