98 tracker check engine switch

will a 98 tracker have the little switch up behind the lower dash to turn the check engine light off???  I'm thinking of buying it and wondered if I would find one up there.

I forgot to mention that it's a 2 door, so it's still a 1.6 liter.

  • How difficult can it be?

I've heard about the legendary switch, but I've never been able to find it on my '96 2dr.  I don't know if that switch went away with the OBDII computer or not.  I'm sure someone more knowledgable than I will chime in.

The only way I was able to get the light to go out was to fix whatever was causing the fault.  In my case the OBD was throwing an EGR code.  It was the steel line from the EGR to the manifold clogged with carbon.  I replaced the EGR valve and cleaned out the line and the passage in the head (an hour working with a piece of wire and Gumout carb cleaner).  When I did that, the light went out after about 20 minutes of driving.

No switch with the OBD2 hardware/software. You'll Need a code reader to see what is going on. A lot of auto parts stores will 'check the codes' for free.

The OBDII Zuks over here still have the old style diagnostic port so you don't need a code reader.
