1998 Suzuki Sidekick sport lift/steering.
« on: December 13, 2006, 08:24:33 AM »
Guys,

I did a bit of searching the forums but I haven’t found what i'm looking for.  I am considering a 1998 Suzuki sidekick sport. I have wanted a 4 door tracker for a while but finding the older 8v ones are pretty tough here in the rust belt.  Anyway if I buy the Kick sport I was wondering what people have to say about the 1&1/8 coil spacers. I'm only looking to run about a 235-30'' tire.  The sports seem to be pretty low to the ground so i'm hoping to just get it up a little bit. Has anyone had any problems with alignments or caster camber angle following the spacer addition? Are longer shocks really necessary? I doubt it in my experience.  Any insight or opinions would be great.

I have a '97 Sidekick Sport, and just got through putting Digger's 1 1/2" spacers on front and back. The front sat lower, so using the same size spacers evened out the rake of the vehicle. I put 235/70/16 General Tire Grabber AT2's  on, and like the way it sits. I used Boondox Motorsports strut extenders on the front, and shocks for a '91 Ford Crown victoria on the back. You will definitely need the strut extenders, or flip the strut mount. The back you could probably get away with using the stock shocks, but thenew ones oonly cost me $30, so it was worth it. I The camber was way off on my vehicle, very easy to see just from looking at it. The alignment shop slotted the upper strut mounting holes to get everything in spec. Here's the links to a couple of pics of my Sidekick:

Thanks for the information.

Why did you go with the 1.5 over the 1&1/8 ? Just not enough lift ? im thinknig fo taking the aluminum wheels off and going with Kick or sami wheels because they are 15'' and i can run the 235/75/15's.

Yea, not enough lift. I was worried about tire clearance with the 16" rims. The tire selection is limited if you keep the stock rims, but I found these tires from General Tire for about $90 apiece. They measure out to about 29" tall,  so I went with the 1 1/2" spacers just to be sure.  I am also fabbing up some rock sliders, so the extra clearance under the door sills will be taken up by them.  Plus, Digger has a heckuva deal on the spacers. One other thing is I had to build a new spare tire carrier. I went ahead and bought a spare the same size, and it wouldn't  bolt up to the stock carrier. I had to fab one up to clear the bumper and the rear wiper.

jason,

hey jason right now im running a 98 kick 2 door with 235/75/15's on it withe about a 3 inch lift but before i got the lift i could still run the 235's no problem there was just a little bit of tire rub in the back (only when the axle was articulating) but nothing to serious you may want to look at a wider rim though if you want to run a 235-30" tire because i know min wouldnot go on the stock rims for my kick i had to go out and find some cheep steelies but the rims off a sami might work any way just though i'd let you know that you can run 235-30" tires with no lift no problem good luck on your search  ;D
