Seat mounts
« on: December 15, 2006, 09:38:56 AM »
I had heard that the passanger side seat mounts always crack through the body on samurai's, so i decided to check mine out...To my suprise they are very very cracked.  So i think today i am going to go grind off all the paint and then give them a good soild pass with the old MIG, grind it down then put an 1/8" square peice of metal down to support and even out the weight of the seat.

Does this sound like a good idea? has anyone else had to deal with theres?
Well let me know what you guys think, and if i go on to do it i will post some pics of it.

Thanks

Amilla

I just installed new seats from JEG's in mine. There are no passenger side seat mounts in mine and I cut out the drivers side ones and just mounted the new seats through the floor.

I cut some 2x2 squares out of leftover diamond plate alum and drilled holes. Used the pieces for big washers.

I bought AR Sport seats from Jegs.    $300 at my door for the pair. They are a bit tight width wise but turned out pretty good. I am 6'1" and long torso so I have to have the saet as low as possible to keep my head off the roof. I was able to mount them on sliders so they can go all the way back to the rise for plenty of leg room. Very comfy once yo get in them!

Sorry I dont have a camera right now but there may be one under the Christmas tree!!

Thanks for all the info about your project.
Some pic's would be great when ever you get the time.

I was thinkin about just welding up the breaks, then re-inforcing it with some metal.
Once i get some more cash i was thinkin about getting the PRP seat combo, which consists of: 2 PRP full susspension bucket seats, and new rails.  and they also come with re-inforcment plates for the seat mount breaking problem.  The whole Kit is 500 bucks, but i think it would be well worth it.  Its always nice to have a very comfy seat to sit in.  Makes trail time a lot more enjoyable.

Theres the link to the PRP seat combo, it looks pretty dam nice to me and i know that PRP seats are good and cozy.

Let me know what you think and if you ever get a chance to take some pics that would be great.

Thanks

I like those seats but a bit pricey for the Sammi low buck project
I went with these:

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_10001_10002_22889_-1_10509

in Yellow and Black. They are very comfy and have an adjustable back. The plastic racing seats are cheaper but dont have the adjustable backrest and by the time you buy the covers and the sliders you will have spent over $200.
The ones I bought come with the sliders and only cost $300

ya but for 200 more i get a full suspension seat, and its custom made how i want it, like the piping and colors and stuff like that. Plus i get re-inforcement plates and new sliders.
and its PRP, which is a really good name in seats. hahah
To me nothing is worth more than being comfortable while your wheeling, and those are some very comfy seats.

We each have our own priorities and thats a good thing.
If comfy seats are yours then I agree. It will be $500 well spent

I've actually been really happy with the plastic seats from Summit.  Nice and cheap, and best of all waterproof.  ;D  Fit my back just about perfect as well for support.  Shorter passengers have complained a little bit, as they don't fit them near as well.

My friend has plastic seats in his sammi and they arnt that bad, but driving in them for an hour or 2, it really starts to wear on you.  But you cant beat the option of being able to hose em down hahha
