Lifting with coil spacers, have some corncerns.
« on: January 02, 2007, 03:09:24 PM »
Hello
I am new to the forum, I have been lurking for the past few weeks and this is my first post.
I am about to lift my GF tracker. We want to do something simple, at least for now.
We live in Mexico, sourcing from different vendors will kill the savings in shipping charges so getting everything from a single vendor is important. Based on this we decided on using the 2 coil spacer kit from Masterkit1.
It is advertised as having everything included, however in my experience just about everything suffers what I like to call the “batteries not included syndrome, and something is always missing, so I am hopping those of you with experience on this kit can help me with the following questions:
Are there any alignment issues after lifting the vehicle?
Are cam bolts required or recommended for a proper alignment?
Take in consideration I do not want to do any mods to the struts to be able to do the alignment.
Is this 2 lift safe on the CV’s without dropping the front diff.?
Are the front spacers 2 in height netting over 2 of lift?
I am asking this because this would cause the vehicle to be lifted more in the front than in the back and this is something I want to avoid.
Kind Regards
Art.

Yes and yes if you don't want to modify the struts.

Is this 2 lift safe on the CV’s without dropping the front diff.?

Yes, however the CVs will operate at a greater angle which means that they will be weaker, particularly if strut spacers are used (and they should be). However careful driving can ensure that the CVs last a long time - don't use heavy throttle with the wheels on full lock.

Are the front spacers 2 in height netting over 2 of lift?

2" spacers on the front will give around 3" of lift. I personally wouldn't use 2" spacers but others like the front to sit at the same height as the rear. From the factory the front end sits slighly lower. Before ordering any parts I would check whether they are 2" spacers or spacers that give a 2" lift.

Thanks for the reply, I spoke with the people at Masterkit1, the front spacer is less than 2" and gives a tad over 2" of lift. I will also be ordering a set of cam bolts to go with the kit.

I've run a simular suspension spacer kit since the summer now, including the spring spacers (providing 2" of lift all round), strut extensions and rear shock extensions. This is the first suspension mod i've done, very easy and simple to fit too :)

In my short experience driving both on and offroad, I've not found any major problems, only a couple teeny things...

- I have found i should really have brought or customly cut, my camber angle adjustment, as i've noticed a slight wear on the outside of my front tyres.

- Also, i suppose it depends how heavy your load is whilst your offroading (i usually seat 4 people) but my springs have quickly sagged since installation, this is due (i believe) to not extending the bump stops. Which means, i've been sqaushing the standard springs an extra 2" when they bottom out all this time... I dont think many people do, but as i said, i guess it just depends of the weight of your truck whislt you play offroad in it...

Hope this helps :)
