strange noise from the front hubs?? can anyone help me out.

i noticed there was a Grunting sound comming from my driver side hub. i figured it might be the brakes.... remebering that i just changed my pads a few months ago.
the noise comes and goes. can anyone help me out? i can't figure it out.

for got to mention.. the strange grunting/grinding sound happens when its only in 2 wheel drive, as soon as you lock the hubs and ingage the 4 wheel the noise is not there!?!?! ???
i hope someone has a solution.

I was going to suggest brakes or wheel bearing but hub could be seized in 4wd. If you drive in mud brakes wear VERY quickly.

It has to be the lockout. i bet if you take it apart its rusty inside causeing the gear to hang up and be half engaged.

so just take it apart... clean it up, put it back together then re-grease?

i think your right about this one, i'll check it out.

It has to be the lockout. i bet if you take it apart its rusty inside causeing the gear to hang up and be half engaged.
