I am looking for a factory service manual for a 96 tracker. I found a set that says it is a PRELIMINARY set  Book 1 and 2. They have white covers. I thought some of the other manuals I have seen have purple covers. Is there a difference between the "Preliminary" FSM and a "Regular" FSM?

First, I don't know what the difference is.

That out of the way, I have and use the '96 Preliminary edition on my '96 Tracker 2-door and have been satisfied with it.  It was a little weak on telling me where the flasher relay was, but I eventually figured it out.

Lots of pictures.  Lots of "troubleshooting trees".  Fairly well organized although the electical info is kind of spread out and hard to find at times.

The 3-speed and 4-speed Automatic section was helpful in working on my '93 Tracker.

I got mine several years ago in an ebay auction for, I think, around 45 bucks.

BTW, the paper stock is very thin so it is nearly impossible to scan it for electronic reproduction...

Another choice that I like is Chilton's Total Car Care series CD set: Import Trucks and SUVs (part # C3050).  Lots of good maintenence stuff on Samurais, Sidekicks, Trackers and just about any other import truck/SUV from roughly 1970 to 1995 - most notably TOYOTA!
