95 Zukikick questions on engine
« on: January 19, 2007, 06:17:47 AM »
Hi guys! New here.  Got some questions on my 1.6 16 valve that I just bought.  Every vehicle has faults, I was wondering what the usual type of problems go along with this vehicle.  for example, I had a 96 Chev Blazer known for AC and trans trouble.    Only problems I see so far is an oil leak that seems to be from the oil pump area and a trans leak but not sure where it is coming from exactly.  Any ideas?  Pulling the front off this weekend to change the oil pump seals and of course a new timing belt because it is probably oil soaked like the other belts.  Next, my book says I need a special tool to get to the valve adjustment set up in the 16 valve engine, at least one local auto parts store never heard of that, haven't taken the valve cover off yet but was wondering if anyone has used regular tools.  Last, after talking with a few and reading about 10 pages on here I see that the Check Engine light comes on at 80K and was told again at 100K.  Mine is on at 110K and the girl who owned it had it checked and the mechanic could not find any faults but I am not sure.  Funny thing is even though mine is a 95 I can't find the self diagnostic plug and the Autozone guy had a reader and said it has a plug in for it but he did not have the right adapter.  Where would be a good place to get the right fitting one or have someone read it without costing an arm and a leg?  Have to get the light off to pass emissions inpection in my state.  One last thing, NICE FORUM !! I love the idea of changing the clutch from cable to hydraulic, next summers project.

UPDATE.  After reading through a LOT of the forum, (luckily it is a slow day at work), I am going to try to find the switch for the check engine light, use a 12 mm wrench to adjust my valves, and pull the oil pump and change out the gaskets and seals.

Just looking through some more stuff on the 95 and it makes me wonder what I can buy online because I have to wonder what else is a cross over between a 95 and 96, or does it matter very much?  Dunno!  Thanks for reading!

the plug connector is under the hood located right in front of the battery, it has a black rubber cover on it which holds it right next to all of the underhood relay's, just jump the terminals with a piece of wire or a paper clip, and count the blinks, its definatly not as nice as the code reader that tells ya the exact code, but if you have a DECENT shop manual it will give you pictures of exactly what terminals to cross....usually the code that i've been getting, and also sounds like others here are also getting is for the egr valve...here in michigan we dont even have a emissions test, and there is no real driveabilty issues what so ever..but i do not know if there is any emissions difference, i would just imagine that there would be, thou...
