TSL or Baja Claw
« on: January 04, 2005, 09:29:20 AM »
I have a little experience with the TSL's but none with the Baja Claws.  As far as wheeling goes I do a little bit of everything, but not really any sand, not much here in VT.  Has anybody run Baja Claws on a Samurai?  Are they any good or do they just look mean?  I'm not really worried about street manners either.

Thanks
Andrew

I would go tsl's the ltb kind and pick up a tire grover with the extra money that you save over the claws and grove them until they work for you, there cheap and tough as nails.

It's not my post, but I'm in the same boat, Claws (bias ply) or LTBs.  I know the swampers are cheeper, but I'm not going to decide solely on price.

I'm leaning towards the claws because I think that they will be slightly less stressful on my stock axles, and will be a little more road freindly with the tread pattern.  (I use my sammy around town and I flat tow to the big trails)
I'm looking at the 33" sizes

in my opinion both are well rounded tires.  swampers are heavyer and work better in mud but will break parts.  Claws are better on rocks than a swamper and are lighter.  i have heard that claws make alot of nosie though.  but i really just like the tread patteren on the claws, just looks really cool to me.

TSL's  ;D they work well and last twice as long. Plus I went wheeling with a friend who had Claws and when we hit an offcamber hill he would just slide, and I would just walk right up. However that was my only experiance
seeing the Claws in action. Here in SoCal Claws are on mall crawlers.

Thats good to know that they can slide on side hills.  I have kumho venture M/T's on my toyota, my DD, but since the samurai is going to be my wheeler I want a good off road tire.  What about the Procomp X-Terrains?

I love my dayton timberline m/ts.  it was love at first sight.  the only other tire I wanna try is the bogger, though I dont like the bias belted construction, the tracker is not heavy enough.   I had a 35x15 tsl on my other tracker, let ALL the air out when it was -20 and the stupid tire wouldnt go sown, just stayed right up.
