white under oil cap?
« on: January 03, 2005, 04:12:52 PM »
Anybody ever have that white milky stuff on the underside of their oil cap? Is that normal? I noticed some tonight when I added a little oil. My coolant level was just down a little in the overflow. I had a hose clamp leaking last week on one of the heater hoses

That's water, could be from the cold weather,
or from too much short trip driving, and not
getting the oil and engine up to full heat opperating
temp, and it could be a coolant leak, but that would
be a blown head gasket, if the water keeps dropping
in the radiator, it could be that, more than likley
it's just the weather and wet conditions

Thanks Wild,
Thats what I was hopeing. I had 2 toyota 4x4's with the 22r motors and I put head gaskets in both of them. This things getting too many miles on it to mess with that. I'd just rebuild it or look for a good 16 valve, neither of which do I really want to  do right now!

If it's not bad just drive it untill the weather gets
better, I think I have had a blown gasket since Moab
2004   :o

I'm going 16V, don't want to do all that
work for nothing, and it's not bad so I just
drive it, I don't get any white buildup either

If I could find a decent 16v, is there much to dropping one in? I wasn't sure how much different they were.

It's just the head and the intake system,
can be a PITA without a donor vehicle to
get all the bits from

I talked to a guy today that had a rolled 2wd with a 16v. I think he wants to hang on to it though(for a sami).

That would be a good donor,
I'd like to find a XL7 motorhome
pusher that has been rolled, I'd
be all over that

I get that white milky shit too, but I always let my ride warm up before I drive it in the winter.  I might have a slight leak, but I never have to add rad fluid.

It's not just warming up, it needs to
get hot for a while to drive out the
water vapor that collects when the
engine cools after it's been running
