Hey guys,
I finally got some good weather to finish off the engine install in a 1992 Sidekick. I've got everything bolted and hooked back up. The engine turns over just fine, however, I've got no fuel -the TBI is not streaming fuel out at all-it is bone dry.
Here are the facts:
1) I removed the TBI fuel inlet pipe to verfiy that the fuel pump was working. Fuel streamed out of the pipe so the pump is working.
2) When I got the Sidekick the engine ran as well as it could for 3 cylinders and a 5" hole in the side of block. So it appears that the FI system worked fine just a few months ago (SEP).
3) The donor engine I swapped comes from a 1992 Geo Tracker that rolled over. The engine was in that vehicle and ran well before it was pulled. The donor engine did sit in an enclosed shed for 4 years though before I installed it into this Kick.
4) Both the Sidekick and Tracker were automatic so I used the Tracker intake manifold & TBI instead of swapping over the Sidekick stuff since they appear to be identical.
Questions:
1) Can a TBI go bad if it sits for a few years?
2) I plan on trying to swap over the TBI tomorrow (putting the original Kick back on). However, I do not have TBI gasket. Should I put this off until I have a new gasket to install the TBI with or can I reuse the old one?
Any suggestions are greatly welcomed!
