Finding 60 thou oversize pistons for the Sammy
« on: February 07, 2007, 01:55:06 AM »
Hey, new here and already posting  ;D

I'm rebuilding a block and really would like to get some 75.5mm oversize pistons for the 1.3l. I know they exist cause Suzisport.com use to stock them but have not had them for several months.  If anyone has any sources, links or info on where to get em let me know !

thanks

the most i ever have seen is 40 over.

... also, 75 over does not leave much of the steel cylinder sleeve left.  If you have cylinder wear problems that can only be fixed by boring out to 75 over, then you should seriously consider getting a replacement block.

my 2 cents worth...

i could get away with 10 over on the donor block but that's not the point. It's a practice rebuild and i figure if i'm going  to go to effort i might as well cram in every performance possibility in, like the earlier longer stroke crank, the bigger Cam & valve sidekick/tracker head.

It is not going to cost me anymore to do 60 over so why not.  Seems many people have done it in the pass just finding the pistons seems to be the block (i was initially intending on 80 over) The aim is to see how close in dollars and performance i can get it to a 8v g16a  :D
If it looks stock it's easier on the authorities  8)  Kind of like the old school hotrod roots

Looking at a piston catalogue the 1298 pistons are flat topped, 1324 pistons are dished, and the 1590  pistons are more heavily dished. If you are going for max. performance then the flat topped pistons might be the best option. If the CR is too high then you could remove a little metal from around the valves which would improve flow a bit. However the drawings in the catalogue appear to show the valve cutouts in different places, could be that they are just drawn 180 degs opposed. I have a 1324 engine but not a 1298 to compare it against.
I think you can get 1.6 power, or pretty close to it,  just from a header and carb change. I'll be interested in how you get on with this project. Keep us updated and post some pics too.
