1.6L Problems
« on: February 16, 2007, 12:19:36 AM »
Ive searched, but have not found anything.  I know its somewhere on this board.  But Ill give it a shot.

I just saved a 1990 geo tracker LSI 2DR from a crackhead.  (scoffs)

A guy who I bought it from said that there's one bearing that's about to go out in the motor.

And when I start it up, it idles really high at around 2000 RPM, then when its all warmed up, it goes down to 1500.

Now, it just spat about 3 to 4 qts of oil, and I just cant seem to find the leak, i know it leaks somewhere near front of the engine.  Any ideas?

I just want to see if its possible to fix it before I decide to take the motor out.

I used to own a Samurai, i know 1.3 is known for putting a hole in its block.  But this one, I see no holes.  I actually thought it was it.  But it still starts up....  But no oil.

Let me know what you think.

Have you looked at the front main? That would be my first thought to be losing that much oil so quickly.

Is it burning any of that oil or is it just pooling onto the ground?

That being the case check you front main and your oil pan gasket. At this point it is just process of elimination. With that much fluid being lost you should be able to find the leak fairly quickly.
