new sidekick needs 33s have searched forum
« on: February 17, 2007, 09:55:51 PM »

Hello i am new to this board. i have had two sammy's, now living in canada they have all rotted away so i now have a 94 sidekick i have bought with worn 31 10.5 bfg muds. a 3.5 inch body liftand mayby a suspention lift but i cant tell. it has blue springs and control arms. I thought it might be a calmini 2" but struts are grey and rear shocks not calmini. can any ine tell me how to figure out what ive got so i can get an extra 1.5" of lift. if this is a calmini 2" can i put spacers on top of it. if only using 3.5 inch body lift would the 31s fit there, is no rubbing. i have 4 brand new bfg mud terrains just begging to go on

If your A-arms and coils are blue, there is a VERY good chance of your lift being a Calmini. The easiest way to tell if it is a 2" or 3" kit is to check if the kit includes differential drop brackets. The 2" kit does not, while the 3" does.

I'm not sure, but I think if you run a diff drop bracket, you might be able to run spacers on top of the coils...because the bracket returns the CV's to stock angles right? Don't quote me on that because I'm only speculating. You may want to look into this some more. Contact Calmini or Boondox and see what they say.

You can fit coil spacers on top of the springs to give some additional lift but you'll have to cut the fenders. You'll probably also need to push back the corners of the footwells to gain some clearance there as well. How much you need to cut depends on the offset and width of the wheels. I have 33x9.5s on 7" rims with 3 3/4" backdpacing. I had to trim the fenders about an inch and push the footwells back about the same distance. The lockstops needed to be adjusted just a little to stop the tyre hitting the frame. I did a trial fit of some 33 x 12.5s on 10" rims and I would have had to cut the fenders back a lot.
The Calmini 2" lift comes with drop brackets although they don't drop the diff as much as the 3" kit. You'll need to check the CV travel to see how much extra drop they can take. Calmini's web site has a good pic of the 2" kit so you should be able to identify all the parts.

just outside peterborough ontario. Im borowing a sawsall this weekend time to get trimming it will be tough i hoped not to have to i got a sidekick with need body kit its almost like its wide body or somyhing about 3 inches wider and not just around the wheel wells all the way to ythe doors. i guess i will have to modify them. I have heard 33s are hard to fit but with 5.5 inches of total lift if my truck didnt flex 33s would fit great. this really makes me miss my little samies soa and 33s those were the days

33's are easy to fit. 33x12.50x15 on 8" rims + 3" body lift + 3" Calmini suspension lift kit + trimming of the front guards - ditch the rear bumper and trim the front bumper in an arc to clear the tyres turning arc and there you have it  ;D

Pretty easy really and worth every bit of effort. A Kick on 33's is one VERY capable rig  :o

About the only way I know for sure to tell if you have a 2" or 3" lift is to look at the front coils. If they are blue, you have a 3" and if they look like stock springs you have a 2" lift.
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...
