Why don't you want to use the hot air hose. On my 86, The emission hoses were all messed with and parts broke. I had to leave my "hot air" hose rigged open all the time just to be able to run for the winter without freezing the carb. Hitachis seem to like to freeze and choke out when it gets cold if you don't have some warm air for them on a cold day. I found a complete set that I will install when I have the time.

If you're emission hoses are all hooked up right, and it runs right, I would leave it for now. If not, fuel injection would be ideal, but webers are popular. I had one on my last suzuki but I like the stock when all the hoses and sensors are working properly since I'm not a carb expert. That way, it runs the way it was designed. If you're good with setting up carbs, you may have better luck with the weber then I had.
