New Plow & Battery Woes
« on: December 29, 2004, 09:56:57 PM »
Hey All . . .

I just used my new Snowbear plow the other day on my 97 4dr.  I just motored along in 4lo and moved quite a bit of snow.  Im impressed.

The plow has an electric lift (superwinch), but a manual tilt.  While finishing the neighbors driveway (approx 2 hours after I started plowing) my stock battery was getting weak as the lights in the radio dimmed out.

What are the cca’s in a stock Sidekick battery?  Im seriously thinking about getting a larger batter to handle the drain.

Any suggestions.  Im looking at more of a “drop inâ€? rather than a “hack and chopâ€? and make it fit.

Can't answer the battery question but would love to see some pics of your plow setup.  How much was it and where did you get it from?

EDIT: I have the Motomaster 72 which deleviers 850 CCAs...

I bought mine from WalMart here in Canada.  Canadian Tire also carry it.  I paid $1000 Canadian.

The plow is made by Snowbear  I also have one of their trailers.  They make great stuff.

Their site is www.snowbear.com

I will try to get some pics.

I work in the rotating electrical field (alternators & starters) I will tell you that while a bigger Battery will help, you wont truely solve the issue until you increase the alternator size. I have a large stereo in mine and needed to install a Optima battery upgrade my battery cables to 4 gauge and install a 105A alternator. Depending what year you only have a 45A or 55A alternator and that is at around 3000 RPM that it will actually put out 45A. Most of plowing takes place at lower RPMs. Now you figure you got lights on and heater blowing that is all your Alternator was suppose to handle with the added load of a plow it cant replenish the battery fast enough.  If you are going to do a lot of plowing I would recomend getting the bracket from petroworks and installing the GM 105A alternator to try and soak up the load. Otherwise you could buy a deep cycle marine battery and charge it up after your done for a cheap solution.

Now for a question?
Is the front frame of a 2dr and 4dr different?
They show NO to the 2dr.
We have  CJ2s  moving snow so I am sure my 94 Tracker could do it.

There is a small difference, as to weather
it will affect the attachment of a plow I don't know

4 doors have an open frame in the front where
the captured bolt is on a 2 door, this might be
a year change thing, and not a 2 door 4 door
thing, but I don't know for sure

Look under tracker, asunna, sunrunner and it lists a plow for the 2 door.

On the web site it has 2dr listed under it does not fit for 89-98.
I emailed them to see if a American company carries the product and if Walmart can retail it in the States.

So the question still is why it is on the 4dr but not listed for a 2dr. Is the front plastc different. I will remove the bumper and make a custom front end if the unit will fit.

This company offers the 2dr a real snow plow with power lift. I emailed them and Monday will call the district office for pricing.
