Im looking for a stock samurai and i was wondering which ones are the best for offroad. I know i want the 5 speed manual trans prolly a 5 inch lift with 33s if they will fit. Anyway tell me what is good....im not worried about the engine cuz i can rebuild them myself

as far as i know, all samurai's had a 1.3L and a 5 speed manual. the biggest difference in the different year models that i know of is that some were carbed and some FI.....so what exactly is your question?

ok well i guess they were all the same....should i make sure i get a fuel injected engine??? anybody know the power/mileage difference between the 2?  and when did they change from carb to injection? help a noob out come on

there might be more differences than that, i dont know too much about samurais, but id try to find a carbed sammy (i like the simplicity of carbs, and theyre cheaper to buy, at least around here). and with a SPOA, you can fit 33's, maybe with a little fender trimming

Ya with a SPOA lift you can clear a 33's.  I have seen a sammi that has compleatly worn out springs, and is sitting on top of home made spring over kit.  No fender trimming done to it and it doesnt rub.

eh im willing to pay more for fuel injection cuz i have no experience with carbs. oh yeah are there any models with a removable hardtop?

If you can find one with a hard top.  But there are tin-top ones to, personally i like the tin tops a lot better.

If you really want to stick with fuel injection you could always just find a sammi with no motor and then put a 1.6L in it.

yeah i was thinking about getting one with no motor so i can put my own in but smog is a biotch in CA could i smog a 1.6???

1994 or 1995.

Many reasons:

1) EFI
2) ECU fixed (no leaky capacitors)
3) Better 5th gear
4) Better calipers
5) Stronger T-case case and T-case output shaft
6) No rear seat

list goes on...

Oh yeah you could get a tracker to pass smog, if i can get my 88 1.3 to pass i think a 1.6 would pass easy, expesialy EFI.

I live in CA to, and have had to deal with the shitty smog laws.
