Finally got some tires
« on: December 19, 2004, 10:54:55 AM »
Before:

After:

They BARELY clear the rear most part of the front fenders, but won't clear when flexed. So I need to cut and move the front mounts for the sliders, and bash in the firewall/floorboard some more. Already put s big hole in the pass side firewall! Damn rust!!

31x11.50 LTB's. 15x8" rims, w/ 2.5" BS. I have about 2" of susp lift, that's it.

The upflex out back is probably going to hit for ya. It looks like you got about 4" back there, which was same for me. You might get to the bumpstop first (or top of the shock), but I just cut ...

Them are nice meats !!!! With that floatation, river crossings might turn into rafting trips  ;D

In the back I'm finding about 5" up and 2" down for travel ... obviously would like to expand that downtravel number. I can't expect much more down from just shocks (other limits come into play), but the 2" today is pitiful.

In this thread I asked for info regarding shocks ... http://www.zukiworld.com/cgi/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=suzuki_talk;action=display;num=1101147933;start=0#0

I'm going to go in some day and see what I can find from the guys at the local parts place. (the napa guys nearest to me are good folks). that 9.5" travel shock looks like a good fit.

You need to get one of these to get some good flex in the rear!

Let's that balljoint move freely. helps out ALOT. Gives alot more downtravel and really unbinds the susp. Getting TJ front coils, and some long shocks and I'll be done with the rear.

My prob .. at this point ... isn't the joint, it's the lame 7" shocks! I can get 5" up, and if longer shocks give me 4" down, I'll be very happy.

A spacer like that would put 33" into the realm of possibilities ... then again the front is also limited with the stock A's, so ....

doh ... my brain must not be functioning (or at least slowly) ...

I forget the PIVOT is the key in a these (on a leaf sprung vehicle, the shocks can matter). So, with every inch of down I add, it's another inch of up on the other side of the pivot. Doh. So yea, dropping the pivot is important!

I'm slowly catching on.

That piece for the rear ball joint did you make that, or buy that, that's pretty cool we had to build one for my brother's truck (Real Red Wagon) but ours spacer is about 4 in. tall, But we underestimated the strength and it's bending, we call it the type writer axle's moving sideways, but still holding. Not getting too far off topic the tires look great though!!!

If it's bending you better get him to switch it out SOON. When that sucker snaps the rear axle rotates around and either trashes your driveshaft, crushes your shocks or both >:( And hope it does not happen if your running at any speed, then he will be fixing boy parts and whatever else gets trashed from bouncing through a ditch :o
