I am a new member from the Seattle, WA area.  Just got a 93 sidekick JX 4wd auto softtop.  This site is what made me decide to get a trackick type vehicle.

The truck needs a little work.  It was towed behind an RV most it's life.  Even had an expired disability permit window hanger under the back seat. 

Here are my questions.

Being towed behind an RV does the odometer track the milage?  SO the engine might have very little running milage compare to what the odometer says.

There is now a ticking noise coming from the top half of the engine.  Kinda like it is low on oil but fluid level is fine.  Think it may just need a valve adjustment?

Drivers side Hub looks like it wasn't installed correctly and will not turn from the locked position.  Passenger moves fine.  I planned on letting Les Scwab repack both the front hubs.  They quoted me around $100.  Does this sound about right?






future plans:  either coil spacers or a 2" body lift with 30" tires   15" wheels with 3.5 or 3.75 inch backspacing       suggestions appreciated

You may find that the tapping noise is just the injector, they can be a little noisy.

Hubs are easy, do it yourself and save the dough.

It could be valve adjustment or injectors...

Unless they disconnected the rear driveshaft, which old people normally don't do when towing one of these, then yes, the miles on the odometer would more than likely show driven miles and towed miles all combined.

Crazy suggestion, but make sure you're trying to unlock the hub in the correct direction.

it looks like whoever put it on had it crooked as there is a gap on one side where there should be none

I would do them myself, but lack the time for trial and error to figgure them out ....  well mostly lack of time since I work 50+ hrs a week and have a 4 yr old


since your in Seattle? willing to work for cheap or beer ?  heh

Take a peek at Ack's FAQ for links to a couple of hub rebuild documents.  Do a search for locking hub.

The process is not all that hard and you can easily do one hub in hour or so with the above-mentioned instructions.  If the jammed hub needs replacing, used hubs can be found at the local pick-n-pull salvage yard for less than 20 bucks a piece.  Just remember to grab the six mounting bolts with the hub when you go "harvesting".

100 bucks is not too bad -- unless you are a true Suzuki owner-operator.  Then 100 bucks becomes a small fortune!  Welcome to the tightest bunch of four-wheelers in the world!

Well I had the hubs in to be greased .....  what they found didn't make me to happy 

all 4 of the bearing were destroyed

the drivers side hub was wasted

the drivers side hub sheared off half the splined on the cv axle



so it looks like I am getting new Warn premium hubs ... 4 new bearings .... and a axle for $650 next week


also found out the stearing box is leaking and probably needs replaced as well 


good thing I really like these trucks ...
